In
1948, an American Engineer at NASA Francis
Melvin Rogallo
invented a suppple wing craft with a triangular frame, called "Delta Wing or deltapane) Originally used for the retrieval of space capsules in orbit by NASA.
In it's present condition it presented two problems straight away, on the one hand, the supple quality if the under wing became very unstable (risking uncontrolable plunges)
on the other hand, the quality of the materia,together with it's fragility, could, according to the constructors, risk being a serious problem for extended flying periods.
It was only in the 1960's that the reckless and adventurous pioneers, used this invention to "fly like a bird" and this then brought the Delta more and more into service and finally into operation.
Australian Engineer Bill Moyes, also a NASA employee,
invented the Deltawing in the same year. It measured 4,5 meters square.
On the 4 th of July in 1969, his boss and friend Bill Benett invented a ski pulled by a motor boat engine, he then subsequently, detached the engine and lifted up the Statue of Liberty with the Kite.

At the end of the 1970's the Deltawing, with thanks to Dave Kilbourne, made an independent winged flight without tow.
The First Non-Official World Championships were held in 1975;
The first one took place in 1976 at Kössen,
in Austria. The main tests were: flying distance in a straight line,
altitude, objective distance by return trip, distance, and distance covered over a triangular course.
In 15 years "freestyle flying" has become a noble sport.
